Training Success Story [article]

Tali"We rescued our two year old hound mix, Tali, from the Atlanta Humane Society when she was a puppy. Many of our friends said we could never have a dog because we work long hours and hike/travel out of town quite often. But we figured it out by integrating Tali into many of our outdoor activities. And the staff and dogs at Barking Hound Village became a second family to the love of our life.

Tali always interacted well with people but got overly excited every time someone new entered the house. So much such that she would nearly knock them over by charging at them. Furthermore, Tali regularly displayed aggressive tendencies toward certain dogs. After receiving several reports that Tali spent the day in and out of timeout at Barking Hound, we knew it was time to reach out for additional help. We had gone through group training so felt like one on one attention was needed.
Our friends at Barking Hound recommended we talk to Krichele about Tali’s challenges. There was no pressure to continue with formal training but we immediately trusted Krichele because she was realistic about how she could work with Tali. Krichele worked with Tali twice a week for several weeks on basic discipline and a command called “place.” Krichele called us after each session to let us know how Tali was progressing. She even sent us a video of Tali standing still while treats were tossed around her and dogs walked by. We were amazed because Tali had always been food aggressive. Krichele was professional, flexible and willing to spend time working with us to discipline Tali. Krichele’s sessions were invaluable. We now have several designated “places” around the house to help keep our loved one on all fours versus on top of people! Moreover, the discipline of keeping herself still in these locations has improved her confidence and receptiveness to other commands.
We are forever grateful for Krichele’s training and the staff at Barking Hound for their continued reinforcement."
